Internships
The American Academy of Diplomacy is dedicated to strengthening the resources and tools America brings to managing its diplomatic challenges, and accomplishes this mission through targeted outreach programs, scholarships, distinguished awards, publications, and writing competitions. Through these activities, the Academy fosters an understanding of the importance of diplomacy to serving our nation and increasing the effectiveness of America’s engagement with the world. The Academy is a membership organization of former senior ambassadors and career diplomats who represent a unique wealth of talent and experience in the practice of American diplomacy.
For its 2010 winter internship (mid-January through mid-March), the Academy seeks an enthusiastic individual eager to learn about the practice of diplomacy and to contribute to the internal operations and outreach work of the organization. Academy internships offer students a unique opportunity to become engaged in various projects and to become an integral part of the organization’s core team. Duties include: communication with Academy members, event and meeting planning and implementation, proposal and grant research, updating and proofreading content for the Academy website and newsletter, updating contact lists, and general office support. The candidate must be available a minimum of three days per week.
The successful candidate will support the Program Director, Finance/Operations Assistant, and President, and will assist considerably in the frequent meetings sponsored by the Academy. Ideal candidates possess excellent written and verbal communication skills and are self-motivated, reliable, detail-oriented, able to multi-task, and are flexible and willing to work as part of a team in a collegial, yet professional office environment. Experience with Microsoft Office 2007 and Adobe Dreamweaver a plus.
This is an unpaid position; credit availability reliant upon school requirements.

Volunteers
The Academy also seeks volunteers who may not be able to commit to a regular schedule, but are available to support Academy outreach programs or awards ceremonies on an ad-hoc basis.
