The American Academy of Diplomacy hosted its twenty-second annual awards luncheon on Tuesday, November 29, 2011 in the Benjamin Franklin Room of the U.S. Department of State.The Academy presented the Annenberg Award for Excellence in Diplomacy to Secretary of Defense Robert Gates (Ambassador Eric Edelman accepted on his behalf). The Douglas Dillon Award for a book of distinction on the practice of American diplomacy was presented to Amb. Edmund J. Hull, for his book High Value Target: Countering Al-Qaeda in Yemen. The Arthur Ross Media Award for Commentary went to Slyvia Poggioli, Sr. European Correspondent at NPR, and the Arthur Ross Media Award for Daily Reporting went to Borzou Daragahi of the Financial Times.
