Michael

Michael Klosson joined Save the Children in January 2007 and serves as Vice President for Policy and Humanitarian Response. He oversees the agency’s public policy and advocacy work with the U.S. and foreign governments as well as contributes to its global humanitarian response work. His policy portfolio spans health, education, food security and humanitarian crisis as well as cross-cutting issues such as aid effectiveness and the sustainable development goals. He has represented Save the Children at various international conferences including a number of G8 and G20 summits, the World Humanitarian Summit in Istanbul and at the United Nations. On the humanitarian front, he has contributed to Save the Children’s response to the Haiti earthquake, Pakistan floods, the Horn of Africa, West Africa Ebola crisis and Syria regional crisis. He is spearheading efforts to enhance further the agency’s emergency response capacity.

Prior to joining the agency, Mr. Klosson served as a career Foreign Service officer with numerous overseas posts in Asia and Europe and in Washington, including U.S. Ambassador to Cyprus, Consul General in Hong Kong, Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary for Legislative Affairs, Deputy Chief of Mission in Stockholm and The Hague, and Special Assistant to the Secretary of State. Mr. Klosson has taught at Hamilton College and the Industrial College of the Armed Forces. He is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Hamilton College and holds M.A. and M.P.A. degrees from Princeton University.
