Carol A.
During her thirty-five-year career with USAID, Carol held senior positions in Washington and overseas, including as Mission Director in Malawi (1988 - 1993) and the Russian Federation (1999 - 2003) and as Counselor to the Agency (2003 - 2005) and Senior Deputy Assistant Administrator for Africa (1994 - 1999). She also served overseas with USAID in Nepal, Thailand, and Costa Rica. After retiring from USAID in 2005, Carol worked in the non-profit sector, including as CEO of the Centre for Development and Population Activities (CEDPA) for four years and as a Senior Advisor with the Financial Services Volunteer Corps (FSVC). She was active in the early years of the Modernizing Foreign Assistance Network (MFAN) and has served on multiple non-profit boards, including InterAction, Plan International USA, OICI, the USAID Alumni Association, and the Partnership to End Poverty in Africa. She has done some formal consulting work but has much more enjoyed being a volunteer oral history interviewer at the Association for Diplomatic Studies and Training. Carol holds a BA in economics from the University of California, Santa Barbara; an MA in development economics from the University of Sussex in England; and an MA in Management from the Stanford University School of Business.
