Clyde D.

Ambassador Clyde D. Taylor was the Executive Director of Una Chapman Cox Foundation. He was born in Colombia of American parents, received a BA in political science from Wheaton College and MA in International Service from The American University. During his career as a Foreign Service Officer, he completed an intensive course in economics and graduated from the National War College’s program in national security policy.

Ambassador Taylor joined the Department of State as a Foreign Service Officer in 1961. His 34 years of service included overseas tours successively in Panama, Australia, El Salvador, Iran and Paraguay, where he served as ambassador from 1985 to 1988. His work took him to some 65 additional countries. His service in Washington at the State Department included assignments as management analyst, international economist, Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Bureau of International Narcotic Matters, director of the office charged with the assignments and career counseling of all Foreign Service employees and Assistant Inspector General for Inspections. He also served as International Affairs Advisor and department head of the National War College.

Since his retirement in 1995, he has held positions in church administration, as executive director of a leadership center, and since early 1999, as Executive Director of the Una Chapman Cox Foundation, which supports the Foreign Service Foundation. He has served on non-profit boards involved in relief and development and refugee resettlement, human rights, foreign affairs public policy and religious work. He and his wife Ginny, who retired from the Department of State in 1999 where she was a director of training at the Foreign Service Institute, live in Washington, DC.
